Inspired by the Zombie Walks that local high school kids were performing on a semi-regular basis, Meow Wolf expanded on the concept and created The Monster Battle in the summer of 2008. The idea is for anyone in the community to dress up as their favorite type of monster or character - Werewolf, Ninja, Viking, Ghost, Robot, Pirate, etc. - and battle it out on The Santa Fe Plaza for city supremacy. The event is a free-form, public performance that has tripled in size each of the three years it has been held. In August of 2011, Meow Wolf envisions the largest Monster Battle yet, a complete takeover of Santa Fe's Plaza and a rare and unique treat for tourists and visitors who are not expecting such an explosion of costume and performance.
