Habitats

LOCATION

A multi-level, indoor-outdoor interactive installation of structures and environments that opened in June of 2010. More than 25 artists created an imagined village of living spaces and curious interiors. The project was constructed from a variety of found and donated materials.

Featuring room-like spaces made from scrap wood, Styrofoam, mud, abandoned couches, telephone book pages and fabric samples (to name a few), and including sound and video elements, Habitats provided an all-terrain experience of exploration inviting viewers to climb, crawl, wander through and spend time in each space.

Habitats marked a major step forward for Meow Wolf as far as collective organization and planning and served to shape a framework for many artists to collaborate on a cohesive art piece while retaining individual creative goals and visions.
